Generator’s UMT Academy brings the best
emerging urban artists, young bands and solo artists to the festival at our UMT:EMERGING STAGE.
UMT Academy is the North East’s leading music training facility for DJs, producers and singers. We offer a range of studio packages to help you build a career in music. At UMT Academy you can train to a professional level alongside pop, urban and electronic music experts. Our expert tutors take you through a course designed for your level of experience that will bring out the best in your performance.

This is also the first of many Cultural Olympiad events in association
with NE Generation. UMT is proud to be associated with the Olympics and one of
the first events to take place in the North East this summer.
25 artists and DJs will perform across
the Bank Holiday Weekend (Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th June),
alongside the likes of Dizzee Rascal, deadmau5, Maximo Park and Noah & the Whale (See www.evolutionfestival.co.uk for the full

On Sunday
3rd and Monday 4th, we'll be bringing you an eclectic mix
of emerging bands and solo artists, with DJ sets throughout from our UMT: BEATS participants.

Performers this year include Tomahawks for Targets who played last
year’s Reading and Leeds Festivals, Athletes In Paris who have been
championed by 6 Music DJ Tom Robinson, Keep The Faith Records house band The Faithfuls who will be joined
by the finest Hip Hop artists in the North East and many others including some
of the best emerging bands and MCs in the region.
Soul-pop band The
Real Davina will also perform after being selected from Sunderland College’s Emerging Talent Competition. Frontman Jordan
Miller says, “We’re a relatively unheard of band with a
local following so playing at Evolution will be our biggest gig ever, everyone
is really excited.”

Highlights from last year’s stage include The Lake Poets and Mausi who have gone on to open the main stage at this year’s festival; South Shields’ Lulu James who took part in last year’s UMT: VOX course will also play the main stage and has received much praise from national press and radio.
UMT and UMT:EMERGING form part of NE Generation and has been
funded by the Legacy Trust UK, creating a lasting impact from the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games by funding ideas and local talent to inspire
creativity across the UK.

also supported by Big Lottery Fund, ERDF and
Youth Music

UMT
Emerging forms part of Generator’s ‘Building the Business
of Music’ project.
· The Building the Business of Music project is
part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), managed by the
Department for Communities and Local Government, securing £822,347 ERDF
investment.
· The ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-2013 is
bringing over £300m into the North East to support innovation, enterprise and
business support across the region and will help create and safeguard 28,000
new jobs, start 3,000 new businesses and increase the region’s productivity by
£1.1bn per annum.
· The project will make a major contribution to
the ambition of the ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-2013 by increasing the
numbers and survival of business start ups in the region and increasing
business productivity.
