Salmon Run

This time of year is great for watching the Salmon returning to their spewing grounds my favourite spot is the Buchanty Spout near Crieff. It's a great spot where you can almost touch the Salmon as they fight their way upstream. Caution is recommended when moving around on the rocks as they can be treacherous.
Photo equipment used was D700 with 2.8 70-200mm. I can recommend a tripod here as holding a heavy camera and lens in one position from minuets on end is hard work a cable release is also a good idea. The fall off from the waterfall hangs in the air so everything gets saturated so a water resistant camera is advisable or a plastic bag with a hole in the end to poke a lens through works well also.

After the Salmon run we went of to the Birks of Abberfeldy to catch some of the fall colours. Shame it was very dull and damp the colours would have been more spectacular in the sunshine.
I gave my Nikon 200-400mm f4 an outing on a D700 plus a D7000 with an FX 28-300mm f3.5-5.6. I also had a fujifilm X100 which took some fantastic shots full of colour and definition also excellent for long exposures on fast flowing water.
